Dark hands of the East
A couple of news items from Al Jazeera:
1. Kremlin critic 'shot in custody': Magomed Yevloyev, director of ingushetiya.ru, a major indepenent news source on the Caucasus was shot dead after being arrested by police.
2. Uncovering Turkey's dark past: article on the judicial research of Turkish terror gang Ergenkon, that has been behind many state crimes in this country. A major issue is that while the judiciary is researching this death squad's crimes in Turkey proper, it seems that most of its crimes happened in Kurdistan, and these are not looked upon with the same interest. Also it would seem like the research is intended to prevent that Ergenekon could be involved in triggering a military coup against the Islamist government.
