There is an intriguing article at Science Daily: researchers from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (Munich) have found, both in simulaions and real experiments, that the "weakest" species seems to be the survivor within cyclical competition, contradicting somewhat the usual interpretations of Darwinian evolution and emphasizing the random (or hidden) factors at play.
